Payments and Pricing

Fees, escrow, payouts, and billing explained.

How does escrow work?

When you pay for a project, the funds are held by MadeMay. They are released to the artisan only when you approve milestones.

What fees does MadeMay charge buyers?

The price you see is the price you pay. MadeMay fees are built into the listed price. There are no hidden charges.

What fees does MadeMay charge artisans?

Marketplace Plan: 15% of the listed price. Storefront Plan: 2% plus $95 per month. Plus Stripe processing (2.9% plus 30 cents).

How do milestone payments work?

The total project cost can be split across milestones. Funds are released as each milestone is approved, so artisans get paid throughout the process.

When do artisans receive their money?

After a milestone is approved, funds are released via Stripe Connect. They typically arrive in the artisan's bank within 2 business days.

What payment methods are accepted?

All major credit cards, debit cards, and Apple Pay through Stripe. MadeMay gift cards can also be applied to projects.

How do gift cards work?

Purchase a MadeMay gift card ($500 minimum) as a gift. The recipient redeems it toward any project. Great for special occasions.

What is the Storefront Plan?

For artisans who bring their own clients. Pay $95 per month plus only 2% per transaction instead of 15%. Requires a 12-month commitment.

Can I get a refund?

Unreleased escrow can be refunded through the dispute process. Funds already released for approved milestones are not refundable.

How is the listed price calculated?

You enter what you want to receive (your net price). MadeMay adds the platform fee and Stripe processing fee to show the listed price buyers see.
