How do I start a project?

Starting a project on MadeMay takes just a few minutes.

Step 1: Select a category

Choose what you want made: Painting, Sculpture, Furniture, Jewelry, Ceramics, Embroidery, Candles, or Other.

Step 2: Answer questions about your project

Each category has its own set of questions. For a painting, you might answer: What medium? What size? How many subjects? What complexity? These questions help us match you with the right artisans and generate accurate pricing.

Step 3: Add details

Describe your vision in your own words. Upload reference images if you have them. The more detail you provide, the better artisans can understand what you want and give you an accurate price.

Step 4: Review matched artisans

Based on your answers, MadeMay shows you artisans who specialize in exactly what you described. Each match includes an estimated price calculated from the artisan's pricing framework and your specific requirements.

Step 5: Choose an artisan and start

Select the artisan you want to work with. Review their milestones and timeline. Confirm the project and make your payment (held in escrow). The artisan is notified and the project begins.

What if no artisans match?

If your request does not match any current artisans, we will let you know and suggest similar options. You can also adjust your requirements or browse artisans directly.
