About payments on MadeMay

MadeMay facilitates payments on-platform. When you commission an artist, you pay securely through MadeMay's Stripe checkout and keep the payment record connected to the commission.

How payments work

Payments, messaging, and delivery coordination all happen on MadeMay. Once a buyer and artisan agree on a project, checkout is handled securely through Stripe, funds route to the artist's connected account, and MadeMay's platform fee is deducted automatically.

Paying for a commission

You pay by card through MadeMay's secure Stripe checkout. Funds go to the artist, and MadeMay's plan fee is deducted automatically — there's nothing to invoice or chase. For commissions of $5,000 or more, ask the artist about paying by bank transfer (ACH) to avoid card fees.

Tips for a smooth commission

  • Agree on scope upfront -- Confirm the total price, what's included, and the timeline before you pay.
  • Keep it on MadeMay -- Messaging and payment stay on the platform, so there's a clear record if anything needs review.
  • Reach out if something's wrong -- MadeMay can review the on-platform record and help with dispute escalation when needed.

How the fee works

MadeMay takes the percentage specified by the artist's selected membership plan, automatically at checkout. Select artists pay 20% per order; Signature and Patron artists pay 10% per order. Existing founding artists retain their grandfathered rate. Artists keep the rest; buyers pay nothing extra to use the platform.
